How can I get my car repaired?
When you make a claim, your vehicle will need to be assessed by one of the experienced motor assessors appointed by Allianz, the underwriter of your car insurance policy.
Motor assessors are highly skilled industry specialists who evaluate damage to the vehicle and help direct the most appropriate repair outcomes, taking into account the nature of the damage, severity, structural integrity, safety, quality and cost.
With your 1300 Insurance comprehensive car insurance, you can choose the repairer of your choice1. After you lodge your claim, you can use Allianz’ online Repairer Locator to find the most convenient repairer. Allianz have pre-authorised some repairers because of their consistently high performance in providing
- high quality repairs
- the best possible customer experience, lead and cycle times
These pre-authorised repairers are authorised to begin repairs without the need for an initial assessment, which can speed up your claim process time and get you back on the road sooner. Some of these repairers also offer ‘rapid repair’ processes, fixing small to medium sized repairs within as little as 2 or 3 days.
What happens if my car has to be written off?
If you have Comprehensive Insurance and your car is so badly damaged that it can’t be repaired, we may decide (acting reasonably) to write it off. This means that we’ll pay you either the Agreed Value or the market value of the car, depending on your policy, which you can use to buy another car.
If you bought your car brand new (or as a demonstrator model) and it has to be written off within the first 24 months of first registration of your vehicle, you may qualify for a replacement car of the same make, model, engine size, features and paint type. If this is the case we’ll even pay the first 12 months rego and Compulsory Third Party insurance (CTP). Check your PDS and policy documents for details and conditions.

Just like buying your insurance over the phone, if you buy your Motor Insurance online, your cover will begin on the start date you request. That date can be the same day, or within 30 days.

Motor Insurance premiums are calculated based on the level of 'risk' the insurance underwriters associate with you and your car. Simple things that differentiate you from someone else contribute to that assessment of 'risk'.
Key factors may include:
- The make and model of the car
- The ages of everyone who drives the car
- Where the car is kept.
- Your driving history and the frequency of any claims you have made.
Market value is the cost to replace your vehicle with one of the same make, model, age and condition as your vehicle immediately prior to the loss or damage. It does not include any allowance for vehicle registration, CTP insurance, dealer warranty costs, stamp duty transfer, transfer costs or dealer delivery.
Agreed value is the amount the insurer agrees to insure your vehicle for, as shown on your policy schedule. Since the market value of your car will change over time, the agreed value could be higher or lower than the market value at the time you make a claim.

Comprehensive car insurance offers the highest level of cover. It provides cover for accidental loss of or damage to your car, as well as cover for your legal liability for loss or damage to other people's property caused by a car accident which is partly or fully your fault.
Third party property damage is the most basic level of cover we offer. It provides cover for your legal liability for loss or damage to other people's cars or property caused by a car accident which is partly or fully your fault. It also provides a limited amount of cover for your car if it is damaged in an accident with an uninsured vehicle, where you are not at fault.

‘Personal effects’ are personal items which are designed to be worn or carried, but do not include items such as money, credit cards or personal music devices. With comprehensive car insurance you will receive up to $1000 cover for accidental damage to or theft of your personal effects resulting from a covered accident.

Any excess which you have to pay on a claim will be set out in your policy documents. Payment of an excess helps to reduce the number of small claims, so it’s one of the ways in which your insurer keeps the cost of your premium down. You may also be able to lower the cost of your comprehensive car insurance by choosing a higher basic excess2.
The excess for each claim is determined by adding your basic excess and any other excess amounts applicable, depending on the type of cover you have taken out and the nature of the claim you are making.
You will not have to pay the excess if the claim relates to damage, that was the fault of a person other than the driver of your car, at the time of the incident and you can provide us with the name and contact details of the other person or any other information that would reasonably allow us to identify the person so that we can exercise our rights of recovery and the claimable loss is recoverable by us.
Before you buy insurance, you have a legal duty of disclosure to tell your insurer anything you know and that a reasonable person in the circumstances would include in their answer to any questions asked that are relevant to the insurer’s decision to insure you and on what terms. The duty applies until your insurer agrees to insure you. If you don’t comply, your insurer may cancel your contract, reduce the amount it pays for a claim, or both. If your failure is fraudulent, your insurer can refuse a claim and treat the contract as if it never existed.
