Home & Contents Insurance in brief*
Home & contents insurance through 1300 Insurance can provide cover for permanent buildings and fixtures on your property, as well as your possessions such as your furniture, fixtures and fittings, appliances, clothes and personal effects. If you choose Classic Home Insurance or Prestige Home Insurance, your policy can even cover your garden landscaping up to the policy limit. All home and contents insurance products we offer also includes up to $5,000 cover for property belonging to your guests or visitors.
Home & contents insurance through 1300 Insurance can protect your home and contents from a range of events: earthquake, storm, lightning strike, fire, explosion, impact damage, theft or malicious acts. Make sure you check the PDS which sets out the standard terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of cover.
If you purchase home and contents insurance through 1300 Insurance, your policy will be packed with great benefits, including:
- Cover for use of lost or stolen credit cards up to $2,500 for any one occurrence of loss or theft of one or more of your cards, when you have contents cover and have complied with the conditions under which your card was issued before we will pay you under this benefit (No excess will apply)
- Replacement of locks or cylinders up to $1,000 on Vital and Classic policies and up to $2,000 on Prestige policies
- Accidental breakage of glass or ceramic items that make up a part of your buildings if you have Buildings cover
They even include cover for your legal liability if someone else not living with you is injured at your home.

Made no claims on your home or contents insurance in the last five years? You may be able to reduce the cost of your home and contents policy with a no claims bonus of up to 30%. And even if you’ve made up to two claims in that period, you may still be able to qualify for a reduced no claims bonus.2,3
Buying home and contents insurance in a single package is easy - and you may be able to get a discount of up to 10% on 1300 Insurance Home Insurance for combining buildings and contents insurance covers on the same policy.2,4

If you purchase home and contents insurance through 1300 Insurance, your policy will include cover for the costs of emergency storage of your possessions after an insured event, and cover for money spent on your credit cards if they are lost or stolen (terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply, please refer to the relevant PDS).
There is even cover for your legal liability if someone else not living with you is injured on your property, and the insurer will pay compensation of $10,000 to your estate if you suffer a fatal injury at your home as a result of visible bodily injury caused by burglars or by fire.
If you choose Classic or Prestige Home Insurance, you can also be covered for burnout of your household electric motors, spoilage of perishable food in your fridge and freezer, and even your garden landscaping, up to the policy limits. Plus you will have higher policy limits compared to Vital Home Insurance.

We understand that different customers have different needs, so we offer a choice of three levels of cover for customers to choose from, all packed with great features and benefits.

Vital Home Insurance can offer protection if someone breaks into your home, or if it is damaged by a specified insured event such as earthquake, fire or storm.
Classic Home Insurance includes everything from Vital Home Insurance, plus some higher policy limits and extra features, including cover for fusion (motor burnout) of household electric motors up to 10 years old. It also offers twice the limit of legal liability compared to Vital Home Insurance.
This premium product provides cover for accidental loss or damage to your buildings or contents (check the PDS for exclusions). It also includes valuable extra benefits, such as legal defence costs (if approved by the insurer) and cover for your possessions when they are in transit to your new place of residence. It also offers twice the limit of legal liability compared to Vital Home Insurance.

However, it is important to understand that home and contents insurance does not cover every circumstance or expense that you may incur. Your level of cover will depend on the home insurance product you choose. Some types of cover, such as cover for flood, are optional and subject to eligibility and require payment of additional premium. 2 Minimum premiums may apply. If you are eligible for more than one discount, Allianz applies them in a predetermined order. This means the effect of applying any subsequent discount will be reduced. For example, the aggregate effect of applying two 10% discounts consecutively means that you will not see the full benefit of both these discounts. Discounts do not apply to taxes or government charges. No discounts are applied to optional cover; Domestic Workers Compensation (if available and selected). 3 When you take out a new policy, we calculate your No Claims Bonus based on your home insurance claims history. To qualify for the maximum No Claim Bonus of 30%, home insurance customers must have had no Building or Contents insurance claims in the preceding five years. However, customers who have had claims may still qualify for a reduced No Claim Bonus. After each claim-free year, the No Claim Bonus discount applied to your renewal premium will be increased by 10%, to a maximum of 30%. However, for every claim you make in a year, the No Claim Bonus discount applied to your renewal premium will be reduced by 10% - to a minimum of 0%. The up to 30% No Claim Bonus discount is applied to some optional covers if selected: Motor Burnout and Accidental Damage, but not Flood or Portable Contents cover (if selected).
4 A discount of up to 10% for combining Buildings and Contents covers on the one policy is be applied for Building and Contents, Motor Burnout and Accidental Damage where you have selected these covers, but, not for applied to your Flood premium or Portable Contents cover. (if selected). Allianz applies discounts to your premium in a predetermined order. This means the effect of applying any subsequent discounts will be reduced. Discounts do not apply to taxes or government charges. Any discounts may be subject to rounding. Minimum premiums may apply.

The call centre is open Monday to Friday between 8.00am and 9.00pm (EST) and Saturday 8.00am to 5.00pm (EST).

Most home and contents insurance claims can be processed over the phone. In some more complicated cases your insurer may have to arrange for an assessor to visit your house to inspect the damage, and help you to coordinate repairs and replacements if your claim is accepted. Either way, your claim will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

Home and contents insurance premiums are calculated on the basis of the risk you present to the insurer.
Risk is affected by a number of factors, such as:
- the location of your home
- the value of your home and possessions
- the material your home is constructed from
- the security devices you have installed to protect your home
- how your home is occupied
- the frequency of claims made by you or by previous owners of your home
Your premium will also depend on the amount you wish to insure, the level of cover you choose and any optional extras you add to your policy.
Before you buy home and/or contents insurance, you have a duty of disclosure to tell the insurer anything you know and that a reasonable person in the circumstances would include in their answer to any questions the insurer asks that are relevant to their decision to insure you and on what terms. This duty applies until the insurer agrees to insure you. If you don’t comply, the insurer may cancel your contract, reduce the amount payable for a claim, or both. If your failure is fraudulent, the insurer can refuse a claim and treat the contract as if it never existed.
